Richard T. Harvey, PhD

Dr. Richard Harvey is the Health Promotion Program Manager. Dr. Harvey is a health psychologist who joined the NCP in June, 2002. He earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona in 1973, and has extensive experience in the practice of behavioral medicine. He has created and administered numerous behavioral health programs since that time. His special interests include weight management and physical activity, smoking cessation, stress control, adaptation to chronic pain, and clinician-patient interaction skills. He has been extremely active in teaching throughout the years, and held faculty appointments in the medical schools at the University of Oklahoma, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and the Medical University of South Carolina. He currently holds adjunct appointments in the Dept of Medicine at Duke University, and in the Dept. of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He has three children, and has far more hobbies than time or money permit him to pursue!
